Musical Theatre

Students majoring in musical theatre will have the opportunity to study, train and perform in a competitive, yet safe and supportive, environment.  Musical theatre majors are trained in voice, acting and dance in a coherent curriculum designed to prepare students to enter the professional world of theatre.

Vocal study for musical theatre majors focuses on a wide range of musical theatre literature and styles ranging from classical to pop.  In addition to voice and acting, Theatre Siena’s musical theatre curriculum focuses heavily on dance with courses in ballet, tap, modern and more.

Auditions

Students interested in auditioning for the musical theatre program should prepare two contrasting 32-bar vocal selections. The songs should be selected from musical theatre repertoire and should showcase the singer’s strengths. Students need to make sure that they bring their sheet music with them to the audition in the correct key with their cuts clearly marked. Sheet music should be in a binder either in plastic sleeves or hole-punched.
Additionally, students interested in auditioning for the musical theatre program should prepare a monologue approximately 60 to 90 seconds in length. The monologue should be selected from a play. Students are encouraged to select monologues that are age-appropriate that do not require any heavy use of dialect.

All audition pieces should be memorized.
